About Random Social Ruckus

There are thousands of design labels out there today, most are commercial, some are branded, some aren't, some are popular and some go as quickly as they came.

Which brings me to my label, RandomSocialRuckus which was created based on my solo designs and artworks over the years of my career as a creative person in Singapore. We are in a generation of forward thinkers, dying to be different in every way possible, the plain age-old custom of uniformity and conformity is over. My label stems strictly on this point, non-conformity and non-capitalist, unique designs and art pieces with good or bad assessments would only be visited once and the screen would also be used only once. This is to keep my designs from becoming superfluous and mundane, instead RSR will keep that rare touch and raw feel of its art and concept for those who appreciate it.

Enough chit-chat, my first design, "Mashrooms" as shown which has sold out 24 pieces and of course, it stops there. Initially, created for UTGP09, but re-edited for print and sale locally by RSR.

Tokyo according to Incognito

Here is some general ish under Getting Around, Food, Fashion, Music, Touristy Shit and Randumb Japanese.

Hope it helps some. It is a good idea to grab a wallpaper city guide. in my opinion they are the best out of timeout, lonely planet etc.

Getting Around

I love the train system in Tokyo. Depending on where the crew is staying the YAMANOTE (Green Circle) Line is usually the shit. Every major spot in Tokyo is on this line (Tokyo City, Harajuku, Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ueno).

Bring your walking sneaks/shoes and bring two pair. Seriously, trust me.

Cabs can be kinda spensive, I only tend to get them late-night drunko steeez. So where u rest your head is crucial. I think it's like 680 yen minimum charge and that gets you not much.

On the way back out to the airport it's kinda fun to catch a bus from a major hotel around you out to the airport. I kinda dig the big tour buses and it's much easier to sleep than on the train. u should ask justin which hotel to catch the bus to.

Food

Top 5 things to eat in Japan. Generally though, the basement of all department stores has amazin food.

1. Miso Katsu (Crumbed Pork Cutlet, Deep Fried)

Japan is the biggest consumer of black pig in the world.

2. Yaki Niku

Maybe this is the Aussie comin out in me but i love bbq. It's a lil bbq over coals, you cook it yourself (meat vegies, whatever), drink some beer (nama biru) and have a pretty fun time.

3. Ramen

Japanese Noodle in soup served with thinly sliced roast pork. Late night food, amazingly tasty, filling. it comes in a few different flavours miso, soy sauce, sault, tonkotsu. ask the promoter/a buddy to take u to a late night spot. I really dug menya musashi in shinjuku. Also here's a killer blog http://www.ramentokyo.com/

4. Teppenyaki

Brother Justin took me to this crazy teppenyaki spot near his place in hiro-o. it was dope and it is justin's favourite genre of japanese.

5. Unagi (Eel)

Fashion

Eryone knows Harajuku n Aoyama. Been done, it's dope. Atmos is my pick of the harajuku stores. KAWS has a store in aoyama

4 other spots to hit a lil less known

1. Ueno

Home to the mighty Mita sneakers shop. Shop is kinda low key but a must visit. i dug it big time.

2. Shimokitazawa

Home to the best second hand/vintage spots in the world. Sizing is usually a lil small but there is dopeness to be found.

3. Kichijoji

On the same train line as Simokitazawa, just at the end of the line. Dopest 2nd hand sneak spot in the world. check out SKIT http://www.k-skit.com/shop/shop.html and their sister store unity. crazy fresh.

4. Daikanayama/Nakameguro

Supreme's new spot is there. Dope shopping, dope cafes. Air is probably one of the freshest clubs out.

Music

So I mainly hit Jazzy Sport last time i was over (www.jazzysport.com) Dope store. Ask for kacchi nasty as he's the brother who speaks english the best. Grooveman spot is sometimes behind the counter.

DMR down the road is also craziness. Kinda like a record supermarket. Dope fitout, easy to browse. They had some cuties workin there when I went

Disk Union (around the spot, they got stores in Shibuya, SHimokit and Shinjuku too) is good for a dig, lotsa range. Lots of super expensive shit. Alot of it kinda overpriced. Good hiphop digging.

Touristy Shit

4 things definitely worth hitting if you got them walking shoes.

1. Tokyo Castle and the nearby art museum.
2. Tsukiji Fish market (book a tour, or hit it late night after the club. I think it opens at 5am-ish)
3. Harajuku Park on a Sunday.
4. Yokohama - mighty masahiro's hometown steez. bext grafitti in jp. cool hiphop scene. if u meet some locals ask them to show u round!

The rest is all lonely planet ish. My buddies in Japan all love Tokyo Disney n the tokyo tower. I ain't down.

Randumb Japanese

A few phrases that I love:

"Eigo Menu wa daijoboo desu ka?" - do you have an english menu

"Go-chi so sa-ma de-shi-ta" - Thanks for the meal (say it to everyone and anyone when you leave after eating)

"Cho-to mate ku-da-sai" - Can you please wait a minute (when you need some time to order)

"Ma-chi-ga-i-nai" - no doubt homie

Learn the rest from the phrases section of your tourist book.

Injoy the trip.

Freedom Rhythm & Sound

A new book by the purveyor of musical tastes, Gilles Peterson and the boss of Soul Jazz Records, Stuart Baker! U know this is going to be quality.

The book, Freedom Rhythm & Sound (subtitled "Revolutionary Jazz Original Cover Art 1965-83") offers an art perspective, through its display of cover artwork, on the development of Afro-centric jazz and its social and political influences in the 60s to its decline in the 80s.

Together with the artwork, there are write-ups by Gilles and Stuart on the various artists featured in the book.

Essential for anyone who has an interest in music, particularly jazz.
